POKOTABI / Sushina Yamami
鮨菜 山み
Tucked into Kita-Aoyama, Sushina Yamami offers omakase sushi courses in an intimate 7 to 8-seat counter setting. Enjoy sashimi, nigiri, and warm chawanmushi alongside curated sake, wine, and Japanese whisky.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Located inside a commercial building in Kita-Aoyama 3-chome, Sushina Yamami welcomes evening diners into a calm dining room centered on a 7 to 8-seat counter. The meal is served exclusively as an omakase tasting course (from 20,000 yen), structured around seasonal fish transformed into sashimi and nigiri.
The course opens with sashimi selections tailored to the market's daily catch, such as tuna tastings that contrast the textures and richness of different cuts. Hot small plates are woven in throughout the meal, from rich sea urchin to a steaming bowl of chawanmushi scented with carefully brewed dashi broth, shifting flavours gracefully from one plate to the next.
The drink list provides ample support for the food. Curated sake sourced seasonally from regional breweries across Japan starts at 1,000 yen, alongside food-friendly bottled wines from 5,000 yen and renowned Japanese whiskies such as Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Hibiki. Letting the chef suggest pairings that match the temperature and character of each dish is a key part of the experience here.
The restaurant operates solely for dinner service, and with limited counter seating, making an advance reservation is strongly advised. It is an ideal setting for an unhurried evening of seasonal seafood and fine drinks while chatting across the counter with the chef.
